Our Story

Owner of MM Education Consulting, Madelaine McCracken (she/her) is Red River Métis and her families are Bruce, Chartrand, Pangman, Larence, Delorme, Ducharme, and McMillan (St. Laurent, St. Norbert, and various locations across Winnipeg, Manitoba), and she holds Irish/Scottish settler heritage. Although Madelaine was born in Winnipeg, she moved to southern Alberta with her family at a young age and is a former citizen of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government (formerly known as the Métis Nation of Alberta) and is a current citizen of the Manitoba Métis Federation.

Since the age of 8, Madelaine has dedicated her life to becoming her dream: a teacher. She completed her Bachelor of Education with a minor in Humanities at Mount Royal University located on Treaty 7 territory (Calgary, Alberta). Since this completion, she discovered a need to support teachers in teaching First Nations, Inuit, and Métis curriculum. This stemmed as a need due to various educators requesting her assistance to teach Indigenous historical knowledge within her practicum experiences.

Madelaine applied to the Master of Education program at the University of Ottawa, located on the unceded and unsurrendered Algonquin territory. Since being accepted, she conducted a Major Research Paper called “Addressing Truth and Reconciliation: The Caring Society, Professional Learning, and Ontario Social Studies Curriculum." The goal of this research was to understand what educators need concerning building their pedagogy teaching Truth Before Reconciliation through Indigenous historical knowledge and thinking.

Now, Madelaine is a PhD Candidate and in the process of writing her doctoral thesis at the University of Ottawa in the Faculty of Education. Due to her work with the faculty, it inspired her to move to the unceded and surrendered Algonquin territory (Ottawa, Canada), where MM Education Consulting is now based.

Madelaine's research focuses on studying Michif (another term for Métis) perspectives in the fields of Truth Before Reconciliation and Indigenous education. She continues to dedicate her time supporting educators and caring Canadians on their journeys toward reconciliation through her research and by providing consultation with school boards, businesses, and organizations in the Ottawa-Gatineau region and across Canada. Madelaine has always been passionate about how teachers and school communities can respond to the Calls to Action and honour First Nations, Inuit, and Métis contemporary perspectives and experiences in doing so. This passion is rooted in the creation of MM Education Consulting.

Madelaine was awarded Indspire's Métis Youth Award for 2025 in recognition of her outstanding work in the field.

Our Logo

MM Education Consulting's logo honours their Métis roots through representing each of the colours of the red-based Métis sash. Being rendered as a book, reminds Madelaine, the owner, of her responsibilities in leading Indigenous-based educational work.

The logo was created in partnership with a trusted, supportive, and special individual named Connor Lenton.
